CHANTILLY, VA
The unincorporated community of Chantilly, VA, is located in Fairfax County, 25 miles west of Washington, D.C. Chantilly is an established bedroom community for commuters, covering just under 12 square miles of land and housing approximately 23,000 residents.
The name Chantilly comes from a local 19th-century mansion and farm, which in turn got the name from a plantation in nearby Westmoreland County. Several plantations once occupied Chantilly, including the historic Sully Plantation. During the Civil War, the Battle of Chantilly and the Second Battle of Bull Run were fought here. A five-acre county park commemorates the hill on which the Battle of Chantilly took place.
Several parks and recreation areas cover Chantilly, where residents and visitors alike can enjoy green spaces for sports and leisure. Ticonderoga Farms and the headquarters for the National Reconnaissance Office are located in Chantilly.
