CENTREVILLE, VA
The community of Centreville, VA, encompasses a land area of about 12 square miles, home to approximately 72,000 people. Centreville is located 20 miles west of Washington, D.C. in Fairfax County, placing it well within commuting distance.
The area was known as Newgate during the Colonial period, while many local names came from England, including a tavern called the London prison and a nearby stream named the River Thames. Several Civil War battles were fought around Centreville in the 1860s, including the First and Second Battles of Manassas and the Battle of Chantilly.
Today, Centreville consists of wealthy suburban neighborhoods, shopping areas and large housing developments. The town maintains such family-oriented services as schools, churches and recreation centers but does not host much industry. As such, Centreville remains primarily a bedroom community.
